Connaught Place, one of the posh establishments developed with time, yet it continues to serve as a hub for people with different interests. For the first time, Connaught Place is being presented as the dynamic hub for politics and cultural production with The Past has a Home in the Future exhibition, curated by Jackfruit Research and Design at Dhoomimal Gallery. Running from November 7 to December 7, 2024 at Dhoomimal Gallery, this exhibition provides a synchronic and diachronic narrative of the place and its inhabitants, especially through the host gallery's story.
"The Dhoomimal Gallery has been a hub for dialogue and artistic exchange," says Uday Jain, director of the gallery. This exhibition highlights Connaught Place as a powerhouse of political and cultural production by combining its spirit with its innovative discourse. A visual extravaganza at Dhoomimal Gallery, The Past has a Home in Future will display archival imagery and artworks, and specially commissioned projects in textiles, ceramics, visual arts and sound.
Celebrating the spirit and bond that artists, designers, and the people of Connaught Place embraced through Dhoomimal gallery and other institutions; art connoisseurs, lovers, and critics can enjoy the evolution of the city's art scenario with the archival imagery and artworks, and specially commissioned projects in textiles, ceramics, visual arts and sound.
Featuring the archival works from various institutions, including Mahatta & Co., Pablo and Richard Bartholomew, Alkazi Foundation for the Arts, Riten Mozumdar, and SL Parasher, alongside contemporary designers, the exhibition also features participants including Ms. Puneet Brar, Rema Kumar, Pooja Saxena, KP Reji and Guild Art, Chaal Chaal Agency, Anwar Chitrakar, Anandit Sachdev, Dhruv Vaish, Veda Raheja, Salwans, Rikhi Ram, Chatterjee & Lal + Ushmita Sahu, Gagan Singh + Chatterjee & Lal.
